Love and Migration

Before the last ice claimed the worldOur ancestors knew how to read the skiesWhen summer rains came in winterAnd winter frost burned spring seedsThey knew it was time to move

The great river that fed their civilizationFor ten thousand yearsBegan to whisper different songsIts waters swelling beyond memoryThen vanishing into thirsty earth

Love found them in this time of changeShe, daughter of those who read the starsHe, son of those who followed herdsTheir hearts meeting as the world shiftedLike tectonic plates beneath their feet

The city walls rose higher each seasonAs if stone could hold back timeAs if the hubris of human handsCould tame the elements that dancedBeyond the reach of prayers

The elders spoke of patterns breakingOf birds arriving too earlyOf flowers blooming out of seasonOf fish swimming in strange watersOf stars that seemed to drift from their homes

Yet they danced in moonlit courtyardsPlanning futures in a worldThat was already becoming a memoryTheir love like water findingNew paths through ancient stone

When the great waters finally cameIt wasn't rage but transformationTeaching them that survivalSometimes means leaving everythingExcept what lives in heart

They weren't the first to migrateFollowing the paths of starsSeeking lands where seasonsStill remembered their old rhythmsWhere new rivers welcomed wanderers

Now watching our own waters riseI think of them, those ancestorsWho loved and left and lived againWho knew that civilizationIs what we carry in our souls

Some truths flow through bloodlinesLike rivers underground:That home is where we make itThat love endures through changeThat wisdom means knowing when to leave

Time moves like waterBreaking what won't bendBut hearts that flow like riversFind paths through any endCarrying seeds of tomorrow

In the end, it's always this:Two lovers hand in handLeading their people forwardThrough changes in the landTowards horizons yet unknown
